JAMES FELLOWSHIP

About

Mission Statement

The James Fellowship exists to promote the supremacy of God through a Spirit-dependent, men’s intensive discipleship ministry that employs a biblically redeemed approach to the 12 steps. Its purpose is to help men increasingly overcome sexual addiction and grow in greater love for, joy in, and obedience to Jesus Christ.

Vision Statement

To see men transformed by the supremacy of God, growing in freedom from sexual addiction and walking in joyful obedience to Jesus Christ. Through a dynamic and deeply relational community, James Fellowship envisions men supporting one another in their journey toward greater love for Christ, breaking free from bondage, and pursuing lives marked by holiness and spiritual maturity.

What We Do Each Night

Each meeting begins with a warm welcome, followed by a reading of the 12 steps and their corresponding scripture references. A short reading, often from the Sexaholics Anonymous book, sets the tone before members introduce themselves by first name, sharing their identity as Christians (if they claim so) and what brought them to the group. The Serenity Prayer is recited, followed by a slightly longer reading, either from the Sexaholics Anonymous book or a Christian author. Participants then break into smaller groups of 4–5 for 20 minutes of open share time, creating space for honesty and mutual encouragement. Afterward, the group regathers for announcements, reads Hebrews 3:13 as a reminder to support one another throughout the week, and concludes in prayer. Each meeting closes with the group chanting together: “Keep coming back, it works if you work it, it won’t if you don’t, so work it because it’s worth it.”

History

The James Fellowship was founded in 2017 by Greg, a professor at Puritan Seminary, with a vision to provide men struggling with sexual addiction a Christ-centered path to healing and restoration. Drawing on a Reformed, biblically redeemed approach to the twelve steps, Greg created a discipleship-focused ministry designed to foster deep relationships, accountability, and spiritual growth. By the end of 2021, the ministry formalized as a non-profit organization with a governing board, allowing it to expand its impact and reach. In 2024, James Fellowship launched its second location in Holland, Michigan, furthering its mission of helping men experience freedom from addiction and a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.
